07/27/24: Obsidian

Well so much for writing a new entry every single day. SHEESH!

Istg that every time I try to make myself do something daily, exercise, listen to a new album, write in my journal, it doesn't matter how well I do I just end up dropping the ball one day or another.

But anyways, a lot of things I've been looking forward to are starting to come out this week! The Book of Bill, new porter robinson album, new music from Daeya and (hopefully) bye2 soon!

I wanna wait for a digital copy of The Book of Bill though because I HATE physical anything nowadays. I feel like putting any book in my backpack instantly spells it's death sentence. That shit doesn't need more than a day to be torn up and bent. So for now, I've started reading Homestuck!

But I've mainly been working on porting over notes from my phone to an awesome program I've found called Obsidian. Not gonna lie, Obsidian is so great that I wanna make a whole quick-start guide video one day. But for now I'll just say that if you are ANY kind of writer then Obsidian should definitely be something to look into.

Sorry if this reads like a shitty YouTube sponsorship segment (shoutout to SponsorBlock) but please believe me when I say that Obsidian is gonna be CARRYING my ass in college. Like I always thought that I was just a stupid dumb-ass all my life but it just turns out that the main tool that I've been using was just hard-capping my skills this whole time.

I can paste in a 2,000 word character profile template in less than a second, I can create any keyboard shortcut I desire and if there's a feature that I think Obsidian is missing, chances are there's a plug-in for it I can easily download and use right away and I can do it all for FREE (if I didn't feel the need to sync everything between devices. But even so it's like 4 bucks a month and I've even heard rumors of free workarounds). But my personal favorite feature? TABS! GLORIOUS TABS!!! I cannot tell you the mental gymnastics I went through trying to switch back and forth on the default apple notes app when trying to do basically anything. And for fuck's sake, I'm writing this blog entry in Obsidian right now! AND I'VE USED IT TO TYPE HALF OF THIS WEBSITE since Obsidian displays HTML!

Ok but I won't lie, learning this program was a whole-ass JOB for me this summer. Obsidian doesn't leave you with much to start with and even learning WHERE to start might be a daunting task for most. It probably took me close to a month before I fully grasped everything about it and got everything set up :/ But like learning an instrument, once you've become proficient enough with it, you will feel UNSTOPPABLE.

Again, I want to one day make a proper guide on how to get into Obsidian, or at the very least show off my set-up, (I'll probably add a link to it here if I ever do) but that's for another day. And if you've found yourself curious about Obsidian, then here's some videos that should help get you started!

Some of these vids are about an older version of Obsidian but the only real difference is that more of the essentials are enabled by default. And yes that last video is two hours long :)
